Distillery District – Best Toronto Wedding Locations

Hi, my name is Lisa Mark and I'm a professionalwedding photographer here in beautiful Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I have had the honour ofphotographing hundreds of weddings over the past ten years and in that time I have seensome beautiful wedding locations.

In this series I am going to be reviewingthe best wedding locations in Toronto.

Today we’re going to be taking a look atarguably the most popular wedding hot spot in all of Toronto – The Historic DistilleryDistrict.

As one of Toronto’s top tourist attractions,TheDistillery District isn’t a venue in and of itself, but rather a pedestrian-only entertainmentdistrict.

The Gooderham and Worts whiskey distillery dates back to the mid-1800’sbut fell into disrepair before being declared a historic site by the city of Toronto andrevitalized and re-opened in 2003 and is dedicated to arts, culture and entertainment.

The restoredVictorian-era buildings are home to more than 70 boutique businesses.

Many of the restaurantsand art galleries that call the Distillery District home regularly host weddings.

You are able to rent out the various eventspaces in the Distillery District to host both wedding ceremonies and receptions.

Some popular wedding venues include: Arta Gallery, Thompson Landry & The FermentingCellar All indoor spaces are independently ownedbusinesses and require separate photography permits and permissions.

You do not have accessto business interiors with a Distillery District photography permit.

The Distillery photo permitcovers outside only, and it doesn’t matter if there’s an art festival or yoga festival(which once happened to me!), you need to work around it when it gets very, very busy.

One tip – remember how busy this spot getson a Saturday in the summer.

Please don’t choose this location if you aren’t okaywith some tourists potentially getting into your backgrounds.

It can be tricky sometimesto work around them in such a busy location.

There are many cool indoor spaces for whichyou can buy a separate photography permit for a rain option.

Specifically the art galleriesand Balzac’s Coffee Shop work well as a rain location option, but don’t forget youalways need permission and a permit! And now for my favourite feature of The HistoricDistillery District: The red brick and the sunlight that bouncesaround the alleyways on a bright day.

My clients always love wedding party photos taken withthe old rusted out truck that sometimes moves around the Distillery District but it alwaysaround somewhere.

Archeo – Best Toronto Wedding Locations

Hi, my name is Lisa Mark and I'm a professionalwedding photographer here in beautiful Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I have had the honour ofphotographing hundreds of weddings over the past ten years and in that time I have seensome beautiful wedding locations.

In this series I am going to be reviewingthe best wedding locations in Toronto.

Today we’re going to be taking a look atArcheo Restaurant, a busy wedding hot spot in the very popular Distillery District.

Featuring an open floor plan and exposed brickwalls, Archeo has a warm and inviting ambience.

Their website describes them as “the restaurantequivalent of the urban loft apartment” which I think is a pretty accurate description.

The reclaimed timber bar, tables and sunny outdoor patio area make this restaurant apretty cool place to host your wedding ceremony and reception.

Oh, and the food is awesome! The outdoor patio is a very beautiful spacefor a wedding ceremony which is partitioned off from the rest of the busy Distillery Districtto maintain privacy during your wedding.

The patio does double duty as the location forcocktail hour while the inside of the restaurant is being setup for your seated reception dinnerfor up to 118 people.

For your wedding photo time you’re goingto want to walk around the Distillery District as Archeo doesn’t really have any spotsfor photography.

Please note that all indoor spaces are independently owned businessesand require separate photography permits and permissions.

You do not have access to businessinteriors with a Distillery District photography permit.

The Distillery photo permit coversoutside only, and it doesn’t matter if there’s an art festival or yoga festival (which oncehappened to me!), you need to work around it when it gets very, very busy.

Specificallythe art galleries and Balzac’s Coffee Shop work well as a rain location option, but don’tforget you always need permission and a permit! And now for my favourite feature of ArcheoRestaurant: The patio ceremony space is gorgeous and whilethe lighting can be tricky here on a sunny day, if your photographer nails it, it canbe so beautiful! Art Gallery of Ontario – Best Toronto Wedding Locations

Today we’re going to be taking a look ata wedding location that’s not only cultural but a staple of modern beauty in Toronto.

Let’s talk about the Art Gallery of Ontario, also know as The AGO.

The Art Gallery of Ontario is located rightin downtown Toronto and is home to over 90,000 works of art! Back in 2002, Toronto-nativeand famous architect Frank Gehry led an architectural expansion of the AGO which resulted in someof its most memorable architectural features.

Most notably the spiraling wood staircaseand Galleria Italia, a space the size of a city block that has soaring light wood ceilingsand stunning window light.

Wedding ceremonies are held in the 4,000 squarefoot Walker Court, under the iconic Frank Gehry-designed wooden staircase.

Larger wedding receptions are held in BaillieCourt, which is 6500 square feet and seats up to 400 guests for a seated reception.

There are other rooms that you can rent for smaller events.

Please contact the AGO tocheck out all options available to you for smaller guest lists.

The AGO is huge! And you can photograph almosteverywhere.

A very select few of the galleries are off-limits for photography, but a securityguard will come with you during photo time and help you with where you have permissionto shoot.

Since the AGO is entirely indoors, it’s the perfect venue for a winter wedding! And now for my favourite feature of The ArtGallery of Ontario: The wooden spiral staircase and the GalleriaItalia.

Both are stunning in wedding photos.

[MUSIC] Table's on the bottom, just keep it low.

God, Sidney's audacious chapeau.

>> Thank you.

>> I can go either way with hats.

So I feel like if you're gonna wearone though you better nail it.

So you know how me andSid have that little back house? >> You girls have a back house.

>> Mm-hm.

>> Julian how long haveyou been at Finland Fog? >> Not long at all but before that Iwas a photo journalist at the Times for way too many years.

>> Five years, I think I read.

>> Yeah, well I met a guy.

>> We decided we wanna have a child butthat requires that I have a job that sort of is in the service of my life andnot the other way around.

>> That is 100% my philosophyabout work verbatim.

>> [LAUGH]>> Why is that funny? That is, It is.

It's like a mantra.

>> Well, pretty nice right? >> You kidding me? It's gorgeous.

>> Yeah, yeah, it's really, really, reallynice and it's probably really, really, really out of our price range.

[MUSIC] >> Thank you.

>> You're so pretty.

[MUSIC] >> All right, see that's whatI'm talking about right there.

I knew that if we waited long enough forthe right couple it would pay off.

>> Yeah andthey clean up really well don't they? >> [LAUGH] Could you do me a hugefavor just if you'd indulge me? Maybe if we can get right here inthis little space over here and could I get that kiss again? >> Yeah, that kiss? >> That kiss.

>> Just like a candid one? >> Just like a perfect one.

The one you just did.

>> What?>> Yeah, the same, see this is what I like aboutwhat I like about this place for you guys because here's what it says tome, it says we're not like everybody else.

In fact, we're better.

>> You're totally right.

>> Better.

>> Yeah.

>> Now do me a favor, could you back up maybe a yard.

>> Here? >> Yeah, yeah, yeah, there you go, right there.

And maybe just recreatethat we found it look.

>> We actually don't know yetif we're getting.

>> Ladies, ladies I can get you somuch more PR with this space and it is notorious for throwing people into the spotlight Imean there'd be lots of eyes on it.

Taste makers.

>> Holy shit, the light in here,it's amazing.

>> I think that we should figure out howmuch it costs and we should go home and we should talk about it.

>> Okay.

>> So we need to be pushy.

>> Okay, I don't>> Sid look at me.

>> Sydney look right here.

>> Okay can I see.

>> See, very Dianne Sawyer.

>> My god.

>> Someone needs to write Mike Nichols andtell him you're sorry for everything.

>> [LAUGH] You're so stupid.

I never look good in pictures.

>> That's not true.

>> So it's a go.

>> One look.

>> Whoa.

>> Okay.

>> Is this normal,is this what people pay for stuff? >> Yes if you want the good stuff that'swhat it is, that's what people pay.

>> Is this is before rentals? >> Think of it this way ladies.

>> No.

>> You only get married once.

>> You can save when you're dead.

>> Think about all the picturesyou're gonna have for your children with photos of your wedding,my photos of your wedding.

Then you want it to befucking spectacular? >> Yeah, we do.

>> And then on top of itthe readers of Finland Fog, most of whom have never seen a lady, lady wedding before.

It's groundbreaking.

This is bigger than you.

>> I really love it,I really, really love.

Like when do we get like this? Never, we can figure it out, please.

Look at me, look at me.

>> Okay, if you think we can afford it.

>> Yeah, I do.

>> Okay.

>> I'll figure something out.

>> There are other waysthat we can cut costs.

I've got a few ideas.

>> Great, perfect.

So, good, good, good? Good? [MUSIC] Okay, [SOUND] take it away.

>> This is gonna be great.

>> The deed is done.

>> I'm glad you're happy.

>> I am so happy.

[LAUGH]>> Hey, take a picture.

>> Take a picture.

>> And let's go home.

And I'm gonna make you dinner at my place.

>> Okay.

Great.

>> Wait up.

[MUSIC] >> Well a lot smaller than I'm used to butI think I can make it work.

How much do you normally charge? >> We don't normally rent it out.

Anything to cover your fee, I guess.

>> Is all this stuff included? >> We could probably toss some stuffin there for an extra cost, I think.

>> That's not what I was asking.

I just wanted to know if I wouldhave to look at it for much longer.

>> Okay.

>> Ooh,although that statue is really nice.

>> That reminds me ofa cat I used to know.

How about this rug? That's a no.

Okay.

>> What do you want to drink? >> No, no, no, no, I got this.

Shot of tequila, glass of wine.
